Overview

Warden closes two gaps in Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations governance: approvals that do not fit how people actually work, and an audit record that answers only half of what auditors ask.

The approval gap

Native workflow covers some approvals but not others, and whole document and order types cannot be governed by it at all. Where workflow does apply, it has a costly habit: a single edit restarts the whole approval from step one, throwing away every sign-off already collected. Teams respond by weakening the controls or working around them, which defeats the point.

Warden adds field-level change approval that resumes at the change instead of restarting the document. Only what changed needs re-approval, so controls survive contact with real work. It extends control to the documents and order types standard workflow ignores, and it can lock posted transactions against edits entirely. Crucially, enforcement happens in the transaction itself, not in a report the next morning, so a control cannot be bypassed and then discovered later.

The audit gap

When an auditor asks who changed a record, the platform's database log gives a partial answer: it is change-only and configured table by table. When the question is who viewed sensitive data, the payroll table, a customer record, a price list, the platform can tell you almost nothing, because it captures no reads at all.

Warden keeps a complete, tamper-evident activity trail across the tables you choose: every change and every read, by named user. The question "who changed this, and who saw it" stops being a scramble through infrastructure logs and becomes a query with evidence behind it. The trail is exportable, so what you hand the auditor is what the system recorded.

Why it matters for regulated operations

Read-access accountability, resumable approvals, and immutable posted transactions map directly to what SOX, GxP, and 21 CFR Part 11 programs expect. Warden is designed by people who know exactly where Dynamics governance stops, and it builds precisely there.

Warden installs as a package into your own environment, and the audit record it keeps stays under your control. Start with a free sandbox deployment in Get started, or read how the control model works in Concepts.
